Tintwistle Athletic FC is pleased to announce that pitch extension works is underway at West Drive Football centre in Tintwistle, thanks to investment from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund.

The grant will enable junior teams at Tintwistle Athletic to enjoy an additional 9 v 9 pitch as well as their first team being able to play at Step 7. The club has over 20 teams ranging from under 7’s through all junior ages and youth teams into open age. Tintwistle Athletic has 30 FA coaches working with up to 300 players twice a week and has some of the best facilities in the High Peak.

The club worked in partnership with Derbyshire FA to secure the £8700 grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund.

Jill Crossland, secretary of Tintwistle Athletic, said: “The grant has enabled the club to expand its facilities and accommodate more players at the club. We are extremely grateful to the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund; their support is vital for grassroots clubs like our own to improve the quality and playing experience for our players and bring much needed sports funding to Tintwistle and the surrounding area. We are also grateful to Mr and Mrs Cooper for selling the club a piece of their farmland, without which this project would also not have been possible. We are also grateful to our supporters that have helped raise match funding for this project, at events held at our West Drive Football Centre."

Tintwistle Athletic FC is one of just 125 clubs nationally, selected by the FA as a pilot club that will shape the future grassroots framework in England.

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “The Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund is dedicated to improving grassroots sport across the country, and I am pleased to hear that their investment is going to support Tintwistle Athletic FC in their pitch expansion project.

“This will be of real benefit to its players in developing their game. Through the investment of the Premier League, The FA and the Government, via Sport England, the Football Foundation is working hard to support improvement at all levels of the game, and this is a great example of its work taking place across grassroots football.

“Since 2000, the Football Foundation has delivered projects totalling £1.4bn in grassroots sport investment, and it’s great to hear that Tintwistle is benefiting from this.”
